In an all time high of targeted black male oppression in America, model, entrepreneur, and father; Tyrone L. Griffin is proving stereotypes wrong by defying the odds of his past and making a name for himself through positive business practices. Abandoned in a park of his hometown of San Francisco, Calif. at the age of five and eventually subject to foster care where his adopted father passed of cancer, the now Houston resident is sharing his story with the world through creative arts abroad.
“It finally felt like I was staring in my own role when I was adopted at the age of 12,” said the now 32-year-old business man. To finally get this huge break in his life after something as huge as child abandonment, statistically, Tyrone L. Griffin would have behavioral problems. A young troubled Tyrone became a drug addict and gang affiliated. After being homeless and sleeping in vacant apartments, he went on to indulge in criminal activities that would later reward him a 6-year jail sentence. Now a father to his 6-year old son, Griffin is changing his life for the better.
After relocating to Houston, Griffin graduated from Waltrip High School and later went on to to study theater arts at Texas Southern University. The criminal turned businessman now holds three certifications. While in college, Griffin found another form of art to express himself…modeling. He has modeled in multiple fashion shows like the Cutest Couple, National AIDS Day, Who Runs Houston Alzheimer’s Benefits, Next Up, and has even been featured in a documentary for urban clothing brand, “Born Poor Live Rich.”
Tyrone joined “Meka Diamond,” CEO of V’Zable Evidence Consulting Firm in October of 2016 and has grown tremendously since joining forces. Since then, Griffin founded “Strive 4 Greatness 365,” a clothing line that focuses on continuous positive enforcements through community outreach. Some of those outreach projects include the 2016 Annual Christmas Eve Big Super Feast at the George R. Brown Convention Center, and the 2017 Super Bowls GridIron Challenge Experience at Texas Southern University.
Getting back to his first love, acting, Griffin was recently featured in the stage play “Secret, Marriage, And Vows”, where he took on one of main characters “Darryl,” the husband. . Most notably, Griffin won the 2017 Houston’s “Entrepreneur of the Year” award presented by Next Up Cypher.
